Pointless Exercise
Today's topic ....the pointless excercise or pe for short and not to be confused with physical education.
The list of that wonderful creature called the pointless excercise could begin with:
1. The static quadriceps stretch
2. The dynamic quadriceps stretch
These two stretches are commonly known as the butt-kick stretch, whereby the heel of the foot is forced back against the bottom, statically with the hand or dynamically using muscle power momentum. Both are potentially dangerous stretches because the knee joint is unnecessarily being pulled apart, moreso in the dynamic version where little control is available.
The degree of flexion involved in these two stretches is never achieved in the running stride so why do them, common sense would ask.
This gem of a book, 'Explosive Running' by Michael Yessis ISBN 0-8092-9899-6, espouses the above ideas and is available at your local friendly library, in Melbourne, Australia, at least.
